It came up on my software update... but I'm not a freezer. Going to wait and see some exit polls before I go through with this one...

I saw that 10.5.1 came out and checked Software Update and it popped up.
So far so good, but it's only been about 5 minutes so we'll see. |

My update for the graphics firmware came up after I did the 10.5.1 update but not when I initially did the software update to get 10.5.1. The 1.2.1 firmware update could be dependent on 10.5.1. Just a thought.

so did they just clock down the card to fix the heat issues?

Hold on, lemme drive home, install the update, call the engineer i know at apple and ask him.
At this point I dont believe anyone would really know. Pure speculation seeing as how the card is already clocked down as it is.

Lets not get hostile now. We all just have hopes that this issue is gone for good. Some of us wonder how it was accomplished that's all. Also with the speed of the internet these days, I would not be surprised that someone not within Apple already knows this info.

no, i have not updated to 10.5.1 and I have the update.
Im not a freezer but my memory ID was 600, which had significantly more freezers. Possibly, this is the factor that decides who gets the update? If they did just clock the gfx card down, then is there any point in updating if I don't freeze? And secondly, doesn't that mean that those who do have the 2600 and don't need it to be underclocked have a better product? what are the legal implications of this... I think if they needed to clock it down they would be forced to give the update to everyone so no one could call foul. Maybe they actually found the problem, and it wasn't heat related. |

I was talking to a fellow Mac user at work about best steps to get my hardware replaced for this very reason. Hmm hope I don't have to do that now so I'm patiently reading these forums as well as Apple discussions to see how things are going. Maybe even sneak out of work early to go install it.

For those that don't go regularly to at least read the Apple Discussion forums, so far there (although minimal posts) everyone is pleased with this update.
I'd say give it a day or 2 plus a couple reboots and we'll see if we can truely call it a Success Story. Surely this is a very welcome update and my hats off to Apple for finally getting it out.

What exactly are you using for the benchmark. I used a tool when I first got my iMac but forgot it's name.

XBENCH was the tool I used. I'll be using it prior to 10.5.1/1.0. http://www.xbench.com/

Hmmm, I've done the Leopard 10.5.1 update, but have yet to see this graphics firmware update on my 24" iMac.
I've never had a freezing problem though. Last edited by teiresias : Nov 15, 2007 at 03:43 PM. |

I doubt it, for most I don't think it was a heat issue. Considering only SOME people need to install it, my guess is it fixes the firmware to deal with the type of video memory that was giving people problems.
If you don't have this type of memory.. No update?

So far from Apple Discussions people have been having success.

This is excellent news - now I feel a lot more confident in buying a new iMac! Perhaps I won't have to wait until 2008 to buy one now after alll!
