Same monitor - different brand

Why is it that two identical lcd monitors , with different labels, are regarded as two different monitors?
I hear here and everywhere, people asking.....should i look into Cinema Display....or maybe Lacie...etc etc
I have a lacie photonvision, and it s a great lcd, but its just a relabeled Nec unit, which is sold under a different name in the nec catalog. The 2 screens are virtually identical.
Can someone explain this phenomenon to me?

Name brands are important to consumers. Why do you think most people go to the market and buy the name brand instead of the store brand?
