This year was quite the disappointment. Would have been smart to create buzz by discounting the iPhone / iPod Touch for at least Black Friday.

Perhaps that could be an indication that Apple is happy with they amount of units they are selling.

Apple is raking in money hand over fist.

You'd think they could throw us a bone with some meat on it.

Apple is, after all, a corporation...

Although most of us love Apple and the products they make, and Apple wants to make it's customers happy, they are a corporation, not a good friend.

If Apple wanted to give the best deals possible, they would sell iPhones for the cost of the materials only. But they don't. They need to make money. Does anyone else remember when Apple almost bit the dust due to bankruptcy?

I am fine with them wanting to make a substantial gain on the products they make.

It is very kind of them to give any discount whatsoever, as they don't owe us a thing.

Bleh, sentiment shared with everyone else. Rather have a decent discount on iPod touch or another product then subpar discounts on every product.

Great Post

I remember when Apple almost went bankrupt

I'm glad that does not try to sell everything for everybody

In the same line we thus do not owe Apple anything. Thus like other companies, if the specials are not good enough, we don't purchase or don't purchase from them. Low discounts thus will equal lower sales for Apple or any other company. Apple, having a monopoly on Mac hardware as well as iPod & iPhone hardware would probably sell abut the same number of units without a special. For that reason the lack of really good specials is showing up this year.

I took advantage of 100 off the price of the base MacBook last year. Not as good of a deal this year . Looks like I am going to an other store this year .

Taking little over $50 off the price hardly sounds worth it to me . At least last years discount was higher than the sales tax my state charges, this year not so much .

Yeap. Not much of a special sale to me. Anyway, I will swing by to the local Apple Store at 8am as I have to see the Mac Genius.

All these sales are on the wrong day!

Yes sales are nice, but why have them all on Buy Nothing Day? Thats just silly and it totally misses the point of BND.

Just had this discussion with my wife, some guy at work, his comment was, ifyou go to the Apple store to buy a laptop at those prices, Apple better damn well throw a i-pod in.
IMHO, whatever they offer off is nice frosting, but you want a Lexus, you pay the price

We expect huge discounts on everything! Wake up people, why do you think we have illegals trying to get here? They full fill jobs none of us would do! And guess what? Notice the price of fresh vegetables and fruit has gone up? That is because farmers now don't have enough workers to harvest their product!

Be happy your getting ANY discounts, and if you don't like Apples sale prices go elsewhere.

What that is almost 5 percent, what do you want from Apple - reasonable prices!

By the way I agree a discount of 4.25 percent is not enough to cover taxes on the devices.

huge disappointment..I mean their sales prices are everyday prices at other retailers (online). I agree, a few larger discounts on big tickets items vs. smaller discounts on small ticket items would have been more appealing and satisfying to new and old customers alike. (and probably more profitable) Photoshop Elements 4.0 must be really crappy software given the huge discount on it.

Ha!

I can't believe people expect hand-outs from a public company.

They aren't. They're expecting apple to be competitive with their discounts or they'll not buy and/or shop somewhere else.

I was expecting to buy some things today, but no way is there any incentive to buy anything. I am perfectly alright without living with these things. So, apple just lost a possible sale by not cutting the price. I am sure many others are doing the same.

I bet. You'll probably wait til the sale ends and buy them in the Christmas run-up. Lock in the higher price If the $100 discount you were hoping for makes the difference between buying and not buying a Mac, I'm wondering why you don't buy 3 Dells for the same price anyway?
