Hi, I just saw these speakers in a slideshow of Apple Expo Paris and would love to know the model name. They are JBL and its not on their site so I assume they arent out. Anyone know what theyre called?

wow kind of freaky. Never seen them before but maybe they are called JBL Aliens ?? 🙂 What did they sound like?

Hmmm..... Close Encounters of the Third Kind? They look a bit too much like alien heads for my tastes. Maybe they'll be called "Roswell" speakers or something....

Very odd indeed, and I'd not really want them myself. I prefer something that won't look back at me 😉

And I really have to wonder how many of these things they'll sell. They are a bit creepy, not something you really want to have.....

I want to have them.

i think they're pretty sweet. imagine if those glowing lights around the base could pulse in time with the music. perfect complement to itunes visualizations.

I don't know, they look kinda freaky. I wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of the night and have these speakers staring at me. 😉

They are the JBL Encounter 5.1 speaker system.

As per this month's Mac Addict...

"...Surround your Mac with the JBL Encounter 5.1 ($399.95, www.harman-multimedia.com) due out in November. This 5 speaker, 200 watt subwoofer set has a volume control that literally goes up to 11. You'll need a sound card like M-Audio's Revolution 7.1 ($119.95, www.midiman.net) to enjoy the Encounter 5.1, but a 2.1 version will be available for $299.95 in December..."

So there you go, LOUD, WEIRD, and PRICEY....sounds like a hit! NOT!

Ha, well, for that much money I'd definitely like something a little more aesthetically appealing....not for me....it would look more like a group of aliens hanging out, watching over my shoulder as I work.
