how do you name your electronic devices?

I was curious how everyone named their machines... I personally follow the scheme of naming them after famous female royalty (e.g. Elizabeth, Isabella, Catherine, etc...)
 
Totally unoriginal, I know

mine are slowpc, boxx, and soon PB12 (or something the like)... just to recognize them on the network. I don't really feel any need to anthropomorphize my computers. Call me crazy. 😛
 
I used to use Star Trek ship and engineering names. I used to have a machine called Warpspeed. The main file server in my house is called Warpcore, and its disk volumes are Warp 1, and Warp 2. I had a smaller PC in the same room, it was called Runabout.

More recently I named after cars. My first laptop was Lexus because it was a compact, expensive and powerful computer (at the time). I replaced it with a widescreen, much faster and more powerful, and also more expensive, laptop -- and called it Hummer.

I also have some boring-ish but functional names: my subnotebook is called Traveller, and a home-automation PC is called Sentinel.

I'm waiting on a 12" Powerbook to replace Traveller ... not sure what I'm going to call it. Any ideas? 🙂
 
mine are named by their function/whatever is holding my interest at the time.

laptop is called "God Kills a Kitten" because of a certain picture that floats around the 'net from time to time.

old imac is now called "All Your Bass" (all your base are belong to us...) as it funcions primarily as a music machine. coincidentally, that was also the name of one of my radio shows...
 
Mine have been Biblical names for a long time now. My 486 Linux firewall is Solomon and my Pentium Linux desktop is Malachi. Still debating what to name the PowerBook-- maybe Joshua but I'm not sure yet.
 
I name mine after greek godesses and hot chicks. Like my iBook is calle Morgan after this really hot chick im chasing.
 
My boot drive on my primary machine is Fantismo. The rest of the drives are Hobbes (same icon as my avatar - Fantismo is Stupendous Man, btw), Dogcow (guess the icon) and Music Machine for my Logic and Reason files (the icon is two eighth notes).

My iBook is iSpiff (Spaceman Spiff icon) and my server (old graphite G4) has Graphite (boot drive) and Storage (guess what that is). My external FW drive is simply called FW Drive.

If you are going Biblical wouldn't the powerbook be Jesus🙂
 
I use the last names of historical figures commonly known by their first names only.

I don't use "Bonaparte" because Napoleon's last name is pretty well known, but that would be an example.

The current cast includes "Buonarroti" and "Allighieri", among others.
 
I use Simpsons names, my PC is called Homer (D'oh)

The rest of my Macs are Bart, Lisa and Marge.

My pc is called TurboBrick after a nickname for older turbo Volvos (which I am also a fan of as are others www.turbobricks.com)

However, I am thinking about naming my new laptop after Apples.. I was thinking Ida Red. Even though it technically is a Macintosh computer I like the Apple naming..
 
Its all about them big cats.

Lets see.
Ocelot is my home server.
Tiger is my Latitude laptop
Puma is my Dell Optiplex desktop
Lynx is my Toshiba laptop

I have yet to figure out what my G5 17" PowerBook will be but it looks like I have plenty of time to figure that out. 🙁 The obvious name would be Panther but I'm thinking maybe Saber Tooth. It sound WAY cooler. 🙂

Computers are the only things I name and even then I don't call my desktop or laptop by name because, *shrugs* it sounds weird. 😛 I’ve never been able to get that moron in Hackers the movie out of my mind where he jumps at his computer yelling Lucie while the Feds are taking it away. Sad. Very sad. 😉
 
I name my computers with various names from Stargate the movie and Stargate SG-1. My current laptop is Bra-tac and my new PB will be Chappai' (Goa-uld name for the Stargate). I figure it is appropriate seeing it should be able to take me anywhere I want to go. My router is "Asgard" for the race known as the Asgard in SG-1.

Well, I'm trying to come up with a naming convention. I leaning toward all things Hawaiian (My Birthplace), My TiBook is named Waipahu, after a city on Oahu near where I grew up. I'm still tring to come up with a good name for my new iPod (When It Arrives). However, I've used several differend names for the computers I have used. And I do reffer to the Apple Equipment by name, its easier to interact with the system, when you give it a name and us it.

TiBook: Waipahu
Newton (MP100/OMP): Bob (As in TEG, Waipahu, and Bob - a play off of "God, The Devil, and Bob")

Last PC (2000-2001): Emissary
PC (1998-2000): Sulu
Old 386 (Made by DTK): DiTkA

Dads old PC: Smeg!

Mom now uses Sulu and Dad used Emissary. DiTkA met its demise by sledgehammer to circuit board. BTW: They both want a Mac, just can't afford it yet, and can't decide to get 1 or 2.

Stargate SG-1 Greatest TV series EVER! Even better then ST:TNG which is saying a lot at least IMHO. Makes me kinda proud that Anderson is a Minnesotan. (Why do you think there are all those Minnesota comments by Anderson in the show?!?) 😀

How about Macapu'u after the best bodysurfing beach in the world - seems apt for an iPod to me.

Or Puu O'o after the vent on Hawaii itself.

I dont NAME my computers, but I do seem to CALL them names when I get upset at them, in which case my computers have many names, some of them sharing a few:

Piece of S***!
D**kling!
D**klick!
A$$hole!
 
My Beige G3 is Teh beige0r, with the boot partition named Master (soon to be Pimp). The second partition is Bitch, and the soon-to-be-installed 120GB drive will be Whore, then next the drive will probably be Slut.
My 15" PB is Silver Surfer, as it's silver, and I surf the web waaay too much. The HD is named Recepticle, simply because "Macintosh HD" is rather bland.
My parent's iMac is Yoda because it's small and green. The boot partition there is "Central Control" as a holdover from our LC520, and the second partion is "Files".

My Titanium PowerBook is called Razorwind, the name of the sharpest katana ever crafted in a certain fantasy setting of my own creation.

The old beige G3 I use as a server is named Mapache, since it hosts Mapache.org (my personal site). Mapache is the Spanish name for raccoon, taken from a Native American word, and I use raccoons to symbolize the Trickster God archetype.

My fiancée's old laptop is Rocinante, Don Quixote's Horse, and her new one is Bucephalus, Alexander the Great's Horse.

The two wireless base stations I own are called Huginn and Munin, Othinn's ravens (old Norse for Thought and Memory).

We also have had four pet rats named after obscure Greek goddesses--Eris, Metis, Maia, and Tyche.
