I just checked iTunes on my 5.5 gen 80gig iPod and it now says version 1.2.3 is available. I was not able to get the 1.2.2 update before it was pulled.

All it said in the description was "Bug Fixes".

Download and update seems to have worked OK.

Mine too...

My 30 gig 5g ipod now show 1.2.3 as an update also... Just lists "Bug Fixes". Didn't get a chance to use 1.2.2, though. Hopefully, its not as buggy.

I never had any problems with 1.2.1 or 1.2.2, but now that I have upgraded to 1.2.3, I get 'Error (-48)' when attempting to sync.

1.2.2 brought me (80gb) a definite speed boost. I'm wondering if 1.2.3 is just the same but works for everyone this time?

1.2.3 Update For 5th Generation iPods

Less than a month after releasing the latest update to its 5th generation iPods, Apple has released iPod Firmware 1.2.3 via iTunes.

Per usual, Apple gives very few details and only states that the update contains "bug fixes."

Thanks to everyone who sent this in

Isn't this sort of odd? I thought it was already historically uncommon for software updates for previous iPod generations to be released. But two in a month? Still no ideas on why they're making changes?

I think you are "overanalyzing" this.

Seems like they had an error in the last update and are now fixing it...sloppy apple.

Were there really that many bugs in 1.2.2? Or 1.2.1, for that matter?

Well I'm always the first to admit that; it is of course the reason for my sn

I agree the second update is probably a follow-up fix to the first. I just don't understand what's changing to begin with. I think I read either on here during the last update release or on TUAW that the previous time an update for a previous generation iPod was released it was for a DRM update. I'm wondering if it might be in preparation for a video-related change, since it's for the 5th gen iPods, but I don't think the nanos were updated. Video rentals perhaps?

If it is indeed simply for bug fixes, then why the hell aren't they focusing their attention on the new iPods, rather than the old. I find the the Classic to be a great player, but there are still some fairly obvious quirks that need to be addressed.

I checked yesterday and I didn't even show 1.2.2... weird. I don't think Apple likes me.

Confirmed, downloaded and installed. Looks good. Will test it out later.

1.0.3 Classic, btw... not the 5th gen... will give that one an upgrade later on.

I just tried it on my 30 GB 5.5G iPod, and it encountered an error. I had to restore it. Upgrade with caution, but it seems to be working alright now.

After upgrading my iPod to 1.2.1 i had to reformat, it synced ok at first but now I get the same error message as you. I'll install the new update tonight & see if it helps. It's reassuring that others are having issues, I thought my iPod may of been on the way out.

Videos Setting now has a TV Screen option (for output): Widescreen or Full Screen and basically made the fullscreen option on the ipod to "Fit to Screen" on/off

Come on... how about a firmware update to fix the bug in the video nano! I can't even use the on-the-go feature and my nano hangs whenever I customize the main menu. APPLE fix that!!! Or the fact that my video nano don't even get detected by itune with the main menu customized.

Yesterday I had my iPod running 1.2.2 reboot on attempting to view a video, something I hadn't seen with 1.2.1. I wonder if that was the problem 1.2.3 addressed?
