Friend at work came across a web site where here could watch someone go thru the actual motions of a particular software exercise -- watching someone click and enter text as they configured a an application.

Sounds like some kind of video screen capture software ----- any comments or recommendations are appreciated for something that will run on a mac
 
I'm not quite getting what you are saying 100%, but I think you are talking about screen sharing. Google it and see if thats what you mean. 😀
