Xbox 360 Controller w/ COD4 in XP?

I installed XP, got Call of Duty 4, and bought a Xbox 360 controller so i could play it as i would on a 360 and so i could use the controller with future games. I've been playing Orange Box with my 360 controller in XP and set the controls so it would work, but Call of Duty 4 doesn't even recognize the controller. I have all the drivers, but is there an app to help me configure the controller?

Thanks

As a quick side note: how does the Orange Box run on your MacBook Pro? I have one of the newer MacBook Pros (C2D 2.2, 2GB), and am debating on installing XP and the Orange Box.

i haven't had a problem with the 360 controller and any games on XP. Sure my xp is on a pc, but it should matter.

Orange box runs well! I have the same system you have. I use the recommended settings the games choose, except I set it at the native resolution and enable 2x AA. It runs smoothly and looks great. This goes for everything in the Orange box.

I Fixed It!!!!!!!!!!

I spent all day searching the web, and I finally fixed this issue. download this driver http://xpadder.com/ it will all be self explanatory, and the interface makes it a cinch. I'm using my 360 controller now with COD4. Engage!

Big problem: analog stick is PAINFULLY slow compared with the mouse speed. turn around in one place with the windows controller and you'll finally realize why posters on this forum laugh at us console geeks trying to have our cake and eat it too. after all the effort, I'm exchanging the adapter for a Razer mouse with programmable buttons. It's just not possible to compete in a game like COD4 with the 360 controller.

SO COD4 wont run right with a 360 controller...that sucks. I'm probably gonna sell it then.

ok so i have xpadder downloaded.... it was not self explanatory, how do I get my xbox controller to work with this driver? There is not an xbox preset it appears, and i interred custom setup and I couldn't find settings that obviously described an xbox controller.
