Ive been wondering when we should expect the next update for Leopard.
Tiger was released on April 29th, 2005,
received its first update on May 16th,
and its second update on July 12th.
Leopard was released on October 26th, 2007
and received its first update on November 15th
So, if things for Mac OS 10.5 follow Tiger, we should expect an update sometime within the first two weeks of 2008.
What do you want from the coming update?
(Updated List)
We hope to see:
Finder
• the ability to resize finder sidebar icons + text!
• Fix the problem when unmounting DMG's and hard drives it remains mounted.
• Remember Finder window sizes and layout.
• Always show last column in full width according to widest text
(in column view)
• Better networking, the new sidebar system is a little weird.
• When you click on a Folder, link, stack or whatever, then click again without moving the cursor, Leopard ignores that input until you move the cursor over it again.
• Add an option to disable "this application was downloaded from the internet.
• New folder icons, they’re badly designed and unreadable
Dock, Menu, Dashboard, Expose, Spaces and Animations
• smoother dock magnification, expose, dashboard, spaces, etc.
• Smoother animations all round (stacks, expose etc)
• Customizable Dock
• bring back hierarchal view of the dock
• Movies playing when minimised to dock (broken in Leopard)
• Stacks behaving as they were shown before Leopard launch
• Dashboard becoming completely non-functional after Parental controls are activated, even if it's later
switched off
• clean up any blue highlights buttons, etc to look sharp instead of fuzzy (ie blue indicator balls on dock
or the repeat indicator buttons in itunes) why the color blue has to be so fuzzy on a mac is beyond me.
• consistent scrollbars (glossy or matte) or allow the user to choose the look he desires (much like
graphite vs. blue color scheme)
• customizable menu bar to change the opacity and shade of grey
• Fix the spaces quirks. Once clicking on open app icons in the dock wouldn't switch, so I had to restart the dock.
• allow the dock and desktop to vary across spaces
• allow new thread of a program to instantiate within a current space
• Cursor looks pixelated when enlarged in Universal Access
Apps
• A fix for random Mail.app crashes
• Sort out the Mail errors when internet connection is slow.
• smtp server problems with mail.
• Bluetooth and SMS support back in Address Book.
• AirTunes back in Front Row.
• Sort out the Front Row pauses and stutters.
• Include more supported video formats within Front Row and QuickTime.
• Remote Artwork in Front Row
• fix crashes for iLife ’08 programs
• fix the memory hogging of iChat when using audio or video
• improve Safari pop-up blocker
• Fix iCal not matching international 24 hour clock setting in agenda (can only show AM and PM while system is set to international 24 hour clock)
• Adding an iCal event should not take 3 mouseclicks
• Fix Mail with stationary enabled to be able to send attachments!
• Fix iTunes scrolling when in Album view
Time Machine
• fix really slow Time Machine backups
• more prefs for time machine, maybe allow specific times for backups? maybe a 'backup now' button.
• Reading / Writing ability for Time Machine
Bugs
• bug fixes for random application freezes. Namely, Dictionary and Safari.
• Sort out the long shutdowns that a lot of people experience.
• a bug fix for the Macbook and Macbook Pro Keyboard lock up problems and Airport issues
• MBP display backlight issue
• fix sound output issue on Powerbooks
• Better Airport Disk support.
• Parental Controls Kill Dashboard
Performance
• Improve performance of Leopard overall - can be sluggish at times.
• Improve the firewall within Leopard - lacks things Tiger had.
• The so forth mentioned features that were said to allow faster booting between windows and OS X.
• HP printer drivers that actually work and that also give full functionality to choose color vs black and
white prints and also draft vs excellent quality, etc (especially for older printers)
• Disk Utility - needs to be fixed so it doesn't take a year and a day to either update or repair permissions, only to spit out cryptic errors about why some permissions weren't fixed.
• Increase battery life for notebooks
• Bring back firewall UI similar to Tiger
• Improved video drivers
• 802.1x fix
How about you guys?
