GUI rendering problems in Leopard (with screenshots)

For the last few weeks, I've noticed that text has been rendering funny on my computer. Instead of describing it, I've attached two screenshots.

-I've tried searches to no avail
-I'm using 10.5.1.
-MacPro 2.66, 2GB ram, 7300GT
-HP LP 2065 monitor
-At one point, I used Quartz debug and changed the resolution independence (and have since changed it back). I suspect that the use of this application may have caused my current problems.
