What is CommCenter used for?

I was looking at the processes running on my Jail Broken iPod Touch and noticed that /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/CommCenter is running?

This made me curious. What is an App on the CoreTelephony Framework doing runnin on my iPod Touch. Anyone know what it's used for on the iPod Touch?

It has something to do with the baseband firmware for iPhones, it looks like it is used by hackers to unlock the iPhone. It might be another iPhone only thing that slipped on by into the Touch... well that's my best bet.
