Headset that comes with Iphone

Is this headset only for listening to music or can you use it as a handsfree , as i do know for fact it has a mic on it but when someone calls me and i pick up with the headset plugged in i cant hear anything :S

It is used for listening to music and for making calls. The microphone is on the right headphone cable, I believe. Make sure it is plugged in all the way. If you download the full iphone manual on Apple's site, you can read more about its function.
