iPod touch on the go playlist

i got the 16GB iPod touch and i made a on-the-go playlist on the touch, but after i connect to the computer it seems to be erased. is this normal??
why doesnt it work like the older ipods??
and is there a work around or is it just my touch acting weird?😕
