boot camp question
hey, im think of installing XP or Vista on my MBP using bootcamp. if i needed to, can i erase the windows portion from my mac and regain that portion for mac os x? And what do u guys recommend for gaming and use of some windows applications. Parallels, VMware, Boot Camp, or CrossOver. and should i get XP or Vista?

Yes, it is very simple to revert the Windows partition back to it's original state. You will probably want to back everything up just in case however.
I've found Parallels able to handle most things very well. I've used both Photoshop and InDesign and they seem to run fine. For gaming however, I would stick to using Boot Camp.

It's a simple click of a button and OS X restores your OS X to full partition. I would stick with XP on your Mac. Don't bloat up the Windows install more than you need.

I agree with the gaming you essentially can't play anything remotely current(anything using DX8+ maybe even earlier versions)
DX so far is essentially non existent in parallels, it is there but not anywhere close to complete. VMware has somewhat tolerable DX but anything 10 years old or newer won't work well if at all and crossover is pretty much nowhere as far as DX, wine is not great with dx support so there is nothing the guys at crossover can do for now. You can look at their compatibility chart to see if crossover will run what you want, it can run some things since it is not an emulator it can run nearly native OpenGL. |
