help-will not print black type

Hi--I hope someone can help me--I have a mac and a epson ink jet printer. All in a sudden, the printer would not print black type. In netscape when printing emails-the blue and red type print but the black type in the message will not. In quark, my
B&W scans will print in black but they look kind of light but any black type in document will not. I have new ink in printer. I cleaned heads. Please help! Thanks.
 
You might have to put in a new Black ink cartrage.... you said it was a new printer, was it always like this or did the black ink work at one time. also make sure that scans are grayscale (in photoshop) and that the printer settings are on B/W and not CYMK. If the scans dont print then let me know.
