iPod lower ipod volume

i have really good in ear headphones, the problem is i can't get my ipod to go low enough to be listened to comfortably, the lowest volume is too loud,

i tried setting the volume lock but that only prevents you from incresing the volumes

i've also tried lowering the level of the songs in itunes but it only lowers the maximum volume

how do i lower the minimum volume on the ipod

i have the 80GB Classic
