I am achieving the same speeds as my 802.11g apple router. I bought the N router thinking I would get something faster but I haven't noticed any difference? i checked the en1 in network utilities and it's 130mbps which was the same as my other router. How can I tell if I'm on the 5Ghz or 2.4?

If en1 says 130Mbps then he has n enabled on his wireless card already.
You should be able to force your router to wireless n connections only to make sure it is using n speeds.
That said, if all you are using it for is connecting to the internet then n won't speed anything up. Your internet connection, even the fastest broadband connection you can get in a home, is much slower than even wireless g speeds. So wireless-n won't give you any speed increase, although it might give you a range increase.

I use it to download large files around 5Gb on up. My usual speed is 1MB per second. However; this was the same thing as my apple g router and now with the apple n router I see no difference.

i have an airport extreme wireless n router and use it to connect to my macbook which also has wireless n.
i get this feeling that something is terribly wrong with my internet connection. My downloads top off at 300 kb/s max using torrents. and utorrent even has that red light at the bottom which informs me that something is blocking the traffic (even though it still manages to download at 300 kb/s)
any advice?
