Time needed to be reset

While waiting for apple to replace my faulty power adapter, I think my battery may have died completely. The reason I suspect this...even though i didn't use the computer during the wait....is because my time was totally wrong when i got my new adaptor.

is my battery shot?

shouldn't there be some sort of other battery that keeps the time....like on desktops?
