Introducing the MacBook Air?

After the banners went up on Friday, we posted the whispers we'd heard about the upcoming thin Laptop, and that it would be called "MacBook Air".

9to5mac posts some notes about the history of this name, including a Google cache record of a computer named "MacBookAir" documented in Adium's usage logs.

This log entry was made on or before January 9th (based on the cache), well before the Moscone banners were posted.

Hmm, interesting, though quite obscure

I've heard rumors about how they are adding a blue-ray drive, which I think is highly unlikely.

Odd, but there could be a possibility. I think it's pretty clear an ultra-portable will be announced at this point, it's just waiting until MW or some spy shot slip ups.

Jobs is laughing his ass off right now.

This "Macbook Air" name is way too big of a stretch. Just because Apple posted a banner that had the word Air in it, the new product is automatically going to be called Air? lol.

macbook air.... kind of like it. reminds me of nike air, though i think the marketing and name can only go so far, unlike, say, 'nano' or 'mini'. also, i keep on thinking of frisbees when i see 'macbook air'.

then again, i'm quite sick of 'nano' and 'mini'.

man... is this weekend lasting forever or what?! monday is going to feel 52 hours long...

What a horrible horrible name. Wow...absolutely ridiculous! MacBook Air? What does it fly??

I can't believe some people in Apple are getting paid seven figures to come up with names like MacBook Air?

I'm not saying people won't buy it due to the name, it wouldn't deter me, but I can't but feel a little embarrassed about that name...

If that's truly what it will be called then Apple with have a huge hit on their hands. That would be an excellent name.

Perhaps, although the fact that it showed up before the banners were posted is a little curious.

I certainly hope it's false though. I agree with a few others that the name is terrible.

Why not? The dual processor upgrade will be called.... 'MacBook Helium'
