Macbook Air is official!

Straight from the site....

"MacBook Air is 0.16" to 0.76". The thickest part of the MacBook Air is thinner than the thinnest part of the Sony. It fits inside a envelope."

- 0.76" thick
- Magnetic latch, 13.3" widescreen display
- backlit LED
- iSight is built-in
- MacBook-like keyboard, ambient light sensor
- Multi-touch trackpad
- 1.6 GHz Standard, 1.8 GHz Option -- Intel Core 2 Duo
- 1.8" 80 GB hard disk standard, 64 GB SSD as an option
- 802.11n + Bluetooth 2.1/EDR
- 5 hours of Battery Life
- 2 GB Memory standard
- $1799
- pre-orders today (Jan. 15, 2008); available in two weeks

Damn, it sounds pretty sweet.

Not cheap, but it doesn't matter. Apple's gonna sell a ton of these things.

Interesting! I can't afford it, but I could definitely find some uses for it.

Not exactly:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1179877038490

At $1850 with an optical drive, better battery life, and 100GB HDD (though missing some neat-o Air features), they're both quite comparable, depending on your needs. Though people seem to be forgetting the Toshiba Portege R500 ( http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/...57&coid=-33781 ) among others.

I really like the apple design and the price-point makes sense, but the large screen bezel, lack of at least one more USB 2.0, lack of ethernet without adapter, lack of mic in, black keyboard instead of white, and questionable iPod HDD have me thinking twice.

A-***ing-MEN, brother! Their top model sport the same SSD as the MBA top model, but a 1.33 GHZ processor, looks effing cheap and only ships in like 2 months. Nice try, Sony!

It's AMAZING

But looking at first pictures from macrumourslive.com

It doesn't look that nice as an Apple product should do, however I'll wait for some better pictures to come.

I'm probably wrong!

I saw the TZ on screen and was scared because I thought it was the Apple design.

And good lord, the multi touch trackpad came true. Well %$U^% me.

it's priddy though. Is this our 13" MBP? No optical, LED backlit screen (OMG IS IT MATTE???), illuminated keyboard, iSight, 80GB/64GB SSD option, that 1.6-1.8 GHz c2d though... hmm.

What kind of displays can micro-DVI drive?

Let's see what the MBP refreshes (if any) reveal -

Edit: *slow clap* Of course, no other portable annonuncements to take the focus off this thing

After a while I stopped trying to convince myself that this fitted my needs. It doesn't - I needs me an MBP.

Initial Specs

Competitive baseline was the Sony TZ series.

.16" to .76" thickness. You could mail it in a large envelope.

13.3" widescreen display with LED backlight. Magnetic latch. iSight included.

Macbook-style keyboard with ambient light sensor (if this is what I have seen on Panasonic Toughbooks - it is slick).

Multi-touch trackpad.

80Gb 1.8" HDD or 64GB SSD.

1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo.
