Interestingly this "little tidbit" may turn out to be among the biggest news of the year. The iPhone "platform" provides no competitive concerns to IBM yet could possibly cause IBM to gain market share over Microsoft (and others like Oracle) by simply being accessable on a wildly popular platform where new users are open to brand switching and new adoptions. AT&T liked the business they took from Verizon and Sprint and nextel. IBM will like the incremental and new adopter business they get for server and user products because a popular new device is compatible with it.

It's Lotus Notes/Domino Server. I don't know a soul who doesn't hate it with a passion. Not much to get excited about IMO.

Lotus and WordPro (dare I say...AmiPro?) are dead dead dead.

IBM is releasing Lotus Symphony, which is a free office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, presenatation program) to replace their current office suite.

And it is coming to Mac.

I'm not sure if they will be making this available for the iPhone though. It wouldn't surprise me.

IBM are also bringing db2 to the Mac, at least in a development guise, but it is a loooooong time coming, http://antoniocangiano.com/2007/09/19/db2-on-mac/ .

Lotus SmartSuite for Mac?

Notes Clients for the iPhone/Touch?

What is the Mac world coming to?

So much for the Mac or iPhone not being much of a "business" device...

But it worked, and anyone could sit at it, work it out for themselves, and create a letter inside 5 minutes, unlike the office/word bloatware we have to contend with now!
