I am trying to use timemachine with leopard, but I store all of my music on an external hard drive. Time machine says that I need to erase the contents of my external HD in order to use it, but I do not have space on my mac's internal HD to store everything. Is there any way that I can use time machine and keep all my music on my external hard drive?

I'd guess your external hard drive is formatted FAT32. Time Machine needs HFS+ in order for Time Machine to work.

There isn't any other way other than to reformat the drive as HFS+.

Do you have your music on your iPod?
