Ya know. Mac Rumors needs to break down and buy one of these honking satellite dishes and stream the event live to its users. Maybe make it a paid event to recoup the price for bandwidth and server. $3 for access.

Why is Apple taking a step back in technology with these broadcasts? Instead of streaming it (read: where everyone with a computer can see it and get excited) they opt to give out archaic co-ordinates so 2% of their fans can tune in. I'm sure some folks have these satellites, but seriously.
Do you have access to a satellite? I sure don't. Do you have access to an Apple store? I sure don't. Guess the re-loading on this website will have to do

I agree.
Why not a Webcast? No-one outside the US wil be able to watch it. No Apple Stores over here

C'mon Apple, give us a break, give us a LIVE feed! You have nothing to lose and only a buzz to gain. Wish they'd pull their heads out of the arses on this.

Well, at least they haven't said that they won't give us a live stream.
They better put one up, though... (drumming fingers) Nope, no sign of one on apple.com yet. C'mon Apple!!! |

Think about it, they stream it over satellite to their stores. What does this do? Get the super-excited INTO the apple store. Not only that, they are hyped, excited, a mob mentality and more likely to buy things.
Or, they could stream it to thousands of people who will go *cool* and then turn off the webcast, and *maybe* buy something. I mean, it still stinks, especially since I"m near 2 apple stores, NEITHER of which are receiving the broadcast. <thpt!> |

streaming
well of course they want us to go to the local apple store where we would be
excited about whatever is released and buy it right there on the spot... dont forget there in the retail market not just web or in someone elses store |

HAH! Just sent them feedback on Apple.com about the lack of streams...
That'll do it. There should be a stream link up in an hour or so.

Seriously, are there any benefits in denying 1000s of fans from seeing and then hyping up the release of new products etc.? There doesn't seem to be any logical explanation.

But we *are* still hyping it. I've told my co-workers a ton of times about iTunes coming out for windows & why it's better. So I'm hyping it nonetheless. And it's not like we won't get to see the products. We're just not getting our "fix"
of wanting it in real-time.

I believe the reason for the satellite stream is not only for the Apple stores, but for media outlets who can't get a camera into the Moscone Center to watch. I could be wrong, but thats the most logical idea I could think of.

Satellite gives much better quality than a web stream, and the public is not supposed to have these. The coordinates are confidential information. Only Apple stores, resellers, employees, and maybe a few others are supposed to have these.
The idea is to get people to come to stores and such to watch the feed. Quote:

I believe the Satellite feed is to sensationalize the event and get people in the stores.
What they should be doing is a combo Satellite feed and then afterwards or later in the day, show the webcast of it. This way, they get the people to the stores that have to be there, right then and there but the others who have jobs, class, yoga, jury duty, etc., can check it out later. ~e

I got your satellite right here.
I love how Apple-friendly my university is.
http://apple.doit.wisc.edu/news/ Wherever and whenever there are Apple satellites, the UW will be watching. No refreshments this time, tho; that's a shame. Come for the Apple, stay for the cheese. |

I have a C-band dish at home, but unfortunately, I couldn't bring it to school. It wouldn't get a good signal inside my dorm room anyway.

It would fit in the middle of the room, with a little rearrangement, with room to get around it. I have a big dorm room though.
C-band dishes are pretty big, but not too big. |
