iMac crashing more than once a day

I have the late 2006 CD iMac (20"), but ever since upgrading to leopard, it has been extremely crash prone. It would almost certainly crash every time i tried to run portal or TF2 through crossover at first, but now it crashes while doing regular things like surfing the net. I have already repaired my disk and repaired permissions. A friend of mine who is a certified apple tech said to clear my PRAM, but i'm not sure it worked properly because it didn't reboot 3 times even though I held the key combo for the second boot. When it does crash, everything, but the cursor freezes. I have never had this problem until upgrading to leopard. Also, (i think it is a thing with radeon x1600 and x1900s) after upgrading, strange lines randomly appear every now and then, and a lot of games crash the system, while doing something funky to the screen.

Somebody please help, but don't even think about suggesting to re-install os x
 
Have you reset the SMC since upgrading to Leopard?
(basically, unplug all devices and the power cord from the iMac, wait 30 seconds, reconnect power, then the KB and Mouse, then press the power button to start the machine.)
I've read about issues with Leopard upgrades causing the SMC to be set improperly, resulting in incorrect fan control and overheating.

BTW, was this an "upgrade" installation or the *highly recommended* "Archive and Install"?
 
Have you checked Console in the Utilities folder to see if anything is being reported? What third party hardware do you have connected or installed?
 
@snickelfritz: everything is (mouse and KB) wireless for me. will that be a problem? and it was an upgrade install
@chasemac: why would i have anything from MS?
@madjew: holy... i have 4000 messages from 1/01/70 (huh?) 10:00:00 AM to 23:01:08 1:16:51 PM. Also, the only thing i have attatched to this thing is my graphire4 tablet
 
a lot of the recent stuff is about safari and adium, but the older stuff is all about a fan widget for dashboard
