iPod Video Connection 5th gen

Hi,
My iPod video (30GB) won't connect to both my Mac and my PC.
Whenever i plug the USB cable the iPod charges but doesnt show up on the screen or the computer.

If i try a firewire cable in the iPod (which doesnt work with 5th gen iPod anyway) it comes up with the usual 'firewire connections are not supported...'
I'm hoping its not the logic board because of the firewire cable...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
