Definitive 1.1.3 Upgrade and Jailbreak Guide

(This is posted at http://guides.macrumors.com/Jailbrea...ating_to_1.1.3 and, yes, I am the author.)

Updates to this will be made as suggestions come in or news is released, but this the exact procedure I followed to upgrade by iPhone from jailbroken 1.1.2 to jailbroken 1.1.3 with my AT&T service still working.

Fantastic! Thanks for putting this together. I'm farther than I was before (I wasn't getting into the proper recovery mode, apparently), but I'm stuck in recovery mode. iNdependence (which has worked before) simply won't kick the phone out of recovery mode. I've tried several times, leaving it open for a couple minutes. Anyone have any advice?

EDIT: iNdependence says "Connected to iPhone in recovery mode" at the bottom.

This is a common problem. Are you sure that you installed 1.1.1 twice? Two restores seemed to be the magic number for me to get iNdependence to work, but yours may be different. If you can't get it to work, try Option-Click restoring 1.1.1 again and then try iNdependence. Also, make sure you have Beta 2 of iNdependence if you updated to iTunes 7.6.

Ran into a problem trying to connect to the phone via SSH. Had to delete the known hosts. So if anyone runs into that problem, that's how to fix it. Also, it looks like the sleeper.net site is down. Anyone know any other sources with the 1.1.3 tweaks on it?

I am at the part where you download the last file, but on rapidshare it shows me all these different places to download it from, just wondering, does it matter which one? I choose the first one and it downloaded lockdownd and the icon is just the blank page with a bent corner and same for the rest.

Ok thanks I took away the bracketts and it worked now, I have a ? I was one of the iPhones that had 1.1.2 OOTB but this all worked still. I thought it wasn't supposed to work? But if I had a regular Jailed not Jailbroken 1.1.3 yesterday and had my music and everything backed up, then today I downgraded and Jailbroked it all, will it hurt anything to restore it to the back up from yesterday? Thanks.

Question--can any of you guys listen to DRM music on your jailbroken phones?I did it to mine, and that was one of the two problems I had. The other one was, even with the lockdownd thing, it took a long time to find the carrier after a reboot, and eventually it just stopped working altogether. Anyone else have similar experiences?

The one thing I do like about this is that its relatively safe--reflashing to stock 1.1.3 is easy, at any point. Just takes forever to reload 6 GB of crap on the phone.

If I am using an iPod Touch?

Also, I payed for the new Apps, can I use the ones I bought on the hacked 1.1.3? Or must I transfer them over from an iPhone?

Thanks guys! Great guide and a LOT of help!

Just to let everybody know, if your using STEALTHSIM, do NOT upgrade your baseband. Don't upgrade using the regular method with iTunes, Stealthsim won't work when your done.

Que?

Hiyo,
I've followed the instructions very carefully, six times this morning, but I only ever get as far as clicking on apptapp. The instant I click on it, safari crashes out, back to the "Activate iPhone" screen (not after a few minutes), and regardless of the "Never" sleep mode setting, after five seconds, the screen goes black and it turns off. I let it sit for twenty minutes anyway, just in case it was still installing in the background and planning on restarting, but nothing doing. This happens every time.

One detail is, any time I land on the Activate iPhone screen, I get an "Incorrect Sim" message. I assume that it's because when AT&T changed my plan from PAYG to a real plan, they gave me a new, (thus unoriginal) sim. I googled this error though, and found people saying that when they'd gotten that, they just motored through it and everything worked out fine in the end, so I don't know if this has any bearing on anything.

-------

This guide looks awesome. I've wanted to try jailbreaking for a while now, and I realize the sooner the better, as it looks as though the procedeure will only get longer and more involved as time goes by.

Checking iPhone version...
You have iPhone version .
Sorry! You must have an iPhone 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 with Installer.app installed. Press Enter to exit.

Question

Doing the 1.1.2 Jailbroken iPhone PC Method. When I get to the PuTTY and do the command cd/ It says, zsh: no such file or directory: cd/

Am I doing something wrong? I ignored that and typed "sh install.sh" and says,
sh:can't open input file: install.sh

Is this correct or do I start over? Sorry for being such an idiot.

Help.

Same here...got this too. Tried to re-boot. Started again. closed all programs running in background. Not sure if iTunes needs to be open or closed...

Re-checked iPhone IP Address...not changed. Iphone seems correct SSH On
Not sure if I should un-install all but essential Third party Apps first. Plenty of room on the iPhone.

You have any luck? Chris

Talking Outstanding - It Worked!

I went through this guide with a 1.1.3 iPhone (1.0.0 OTB) and ended up with a fully functional 1.1.3 jailbroken iPhone without a snag (well maybe a small one - later on that)!

This is amazing because my initial attempts using the other guides published ended in disaster - one so bad that I thought I had bricked my phone. Kudos to SBrocket for putting this well written and clear guide together and the iPhone Dev Team for coming up with the hacks.

Note that I used Windows XP to do this. The one small issue I ran into was that step 13 had to be run more than once for it complete properly. Beyond that, if you follow the instructions EXACTLY, you should have no problems.

Again, excellent work to all! Its great having all my native apps back!

If you've gone via 1.1.2 at some stage, you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G). So you need to move back up to 1.1.2 for the phone to be happy again. In other words, Oktoprep, option-update to 1.1.2 and re-jailbreak 1.1.2.

OK, this is confusing, I've successfully upgraded/jailbroken 1.1.3, on a iPod touch, when I install third part apps they show up on the springboard ok and work, when I install apple apps they install (they are in /Applications) but don't show up on springboard, anyone else getting this? any solution?

Great guide,

But it might be worth mention that its a good idea to make sure you grab the update for installer before you begin to jailbreak 1.1.3?

I didn't do this and kept getting a 'main script execution error' whenever I tried to install anything in 1.1.3 (couldn't even update Installer).

Whether this is something that can be fixed after 1.1.3 has been put on the phone I don't know?
