Can someone with the newest MBP do me a favor? In the system profiler, go to Hardware -> Graphics/Displays. Copy/Paste what your values are for these items:

Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x8
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0407
Revision ID: 0x00a1
ROM Revision: 3175

I'm particularly interested in the Lane Width, but I'm curious to know what other people's revision ID and ROM revisions are.

OK, thats plenty, thanks guys!!! Yes, my link width is screwed up, thats why I asked. I thought it was just a windows problem, but apparently not. I also suspected the ROM revision might be different on different people's machines, leading to some sort of error...idk. I really, really hope I don't have to RMA this thing, that would SUCK.

Is there a phone number I can call? I need to speak to someone intelligent at apple (I feel like a tier 1 customer service rep would have no idea what I'm talking about when I talk about my PCIe Link Width...yeah), and the nearest apple store is 100 mi away and I don't have a car.

You'll probably just have to start out with the guy who answers the phone. If they don't know, they should be able to get you to someone that can help.

Have you tried updating? Or if you have time you might want to try a clean install, see what happens. They'll probably ask you questions like that.

What phone number is it? 1800-APL-CARE? They say that number is only for people with hardware newer than 90 days old, and I bought mine in the summer. Should I call it anyway?

mine is exactly the same as everyone's else

hmm, its wierd you got the x8 Lane GPU

probably should check back to Apple and see if they can do something :)
