I am a new Mac user; just got my MacBook last week.

What is your opinion on the best browser to use on a consistent basis? I add to my bookmarks on a regular basis and would rather just update one browser. Safari, Firefox, IE?

IE is hardly an option.

There are many threads on this, it generally goes:
60% Safari
30% Firefox
8% Camino
2% Flock/Shiira/Opera etc.

I vote Safari. I use it about 98% of the time. The other 2% I use Shiira, Camnio, Opera, and Firefox.
 
i like camino.

safari doesn't work well for gmail, and camino is a similarly lite mac-happy browser.

firefox mac is not as efficient as safari or camino.

In what way does Safari not work with gmail? It is just great for me.

Oh, Safari is my recommendation for a browser on OS X, particularly due to its integration with the operating system. With the right plugins (Inquisitor and Safari-Adblock in particular) it really is superb.

Two points:
  1. Don't be such a Windows user. You may have as many browsers in MacOS X as you want. If you have the hard drive space, then there is no downside to having multiple browsers installed. Currently, I have 12 browsers installed.
  2. The most recent version of Internet Explorer for the Mac is IE 5.2.3. Far and away, it is the least compatible browser on my system. Microsoft has not supported it for years and dropped it all together a couple of years ago.
 
I prefer Camino over Safari. It's just as Mac compatible, but Safari just seems to go slower for me, and doesn't work more often. Try Safari, but try Camino as well.
 
is searching so difficult on this forum? this topic has been beaten to death, on a weekly basis!

open new threat when opera 9.5, or firefox 3, or camino 1.6 release.

still, i prefer firefox 3.

#1 do be such a Windows user?? Umm Windows can run 12 browsers if you want as well??

My vote is FireFox 3 its just about to pop Beta 3 in a week probably, the code for Beta 3 locked on the 30th. Its faster than any browser I have ever used.

Safari has problems with some pages. Opera even worse. FF2 is probably the most compatible with all pages, but its slow and leaks memory.

If you are a heavy bookmark user forget Safari it has the THE WORST bookmark support. No way to sort book marks in the app, adding bookmark folder to the drop down off the top menu is a pita and no sidebar for bookmarks/history...like every other browser on the planet.

In a mont FF3 will be THE browser for OSX when it comes to speed, site compatibility and features.
 
Consider using BookIt for organising your bookmarks. I use that to sync bookmarks across both my computers. (They each run FF3, Safari, Opera and Camino.)
 
Safari.

Very rarely do I come across a website that doesn't support Safari. Not to mention that it just runs so much better under Leopard than the others. Firefox is a dud it seems. Bloated and very obviously does not have a Mac interface. Try right-clicking in Firefox sometime...its reaction speed is different. I can't explain it but it feels out of place.

Anyways, Safari allows me to search my bookmarks and history. It syncs up to my iPod. Webclip is nice for occasional items. I use Inquisitor for searching. All in all, solid and fast.
 
Best internet browser for viewing webpages offline
Camino has been my favorite until now

But I'm going to switch back to firefox

as Camino has no way of viewing webpages offline (previously visited).

Useful when away on business and sorting through saved bookmarks etc

I have done a lot of research and only a few browsers have the ability of using the:-
"file" "work offline" preferences

Internet explorer (wouldn't touch with a barge pole)
Netscape (Cumbersome & restrictive)
and Firefox

Someone tells me opera does as well (but i havn't checked that)

These are the only 4 browsers that can view pages offline that you have previously visited (correct as of February 2008)

Camino and safari have not got these capabilities

Shame, I liked Camino but i can't go without this tool

I really love Firefox… so far 3.0b2 has been behaving well, but as of yesterday it has been crashing — restarts haven't helped.
Must have sent about 10+ crash reports. :eek:

Each to their own I guess. Firefox takes about a fortnight to launch for me and takes just as long to load a page.

yes indeed, absolute truth just been told by you on that line.

for speed, I just tested firefox 3 nightly is 1.15x faster than safari 3.0.4 on javascript. Opera is even faster (1.3x faster than safari 3.0.4)
 
I've just started using Firefox again as my main browser. I'm using the 3.0 Beta 2 release with version 0.9.1 of the Proto theme (version 0.10 is a step backward).
 
I use Safari 99% of the time. There are a few sites that I go to, one being my Qwest mail that Safari will not open up. Then I turn to Firefox. I actually like Firefox alot, but HATE tabs, and cannot find a way to turn them off. Is there way to turn off Tabs in Firefox?
