Hi, I'm thinking about getting a macbook air. I might even wait for the revision 2. Right now I have a Dell PC with an Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz processor and 1.25 gb of ram. I have 2 questions. How would a 1.6 Core 2 Duo macbook air compare to the speed of my older Dell. Another question... How would I transfer my iTunes to my new air. Thanks for helping a newbie.

I am not too "in" on the computer stuff, but I have a MacBook with a 2.0 Ghz and it is really fast. I know Apple and they would not put out a product (for that price) that was not top of the line and not fast! You will be happy with this product. For question 2....all you have to do is go into iTunes, go to file, and click on Back Up To Disk (or it might be Create Back Up Disk on your PC). Then, it will ask you if you want to back up your entire library or just your recent iTunes Store purchases. Of course click entire library and it will put your entire library on multiple disks. Then, with the MacBook Air, I am guessing you would have to sync the 2 computers together and have it transfer the disks on your PC to the MBA! I hope this answers your questions!!!!! 🙂
#1 - a p4 2.4 is not even close to the speed of a core 2 duo cpu and on top of that theres 2 cpus in there not just a single like the p4 hence the "duo" part so it can manage more things running at the same time
with new cpu and new memory (2gb worth also) .. the air can easily beat out any old P4 laptops
#2 - i was helping my friend out also transfering itunes music
and all we simply did was copy over the itunes folder into the mac itunes folder and itunes did the rest

As a poster above mentioned, this thing will be allot faster than your old PC. You can use an external USB drive to move your music files over with as thats a very simple thing to do. You will find OSX an amazing platform. I never regretted my move from W2K to OSX.

I'm not entirely sure but you might be able to use target disk to trnasfer the files. Target disk is a mac function that allows you to turn your computer into an external hard drive. All you have to do is boot up your mac while holding the t key. I've never tried it using a usb cable or in combination with a pc but it works like a dream with firewire and other macs.
if it works with usb all you would have to do is connect your pc to your mac with a usb and reboot holding the t button, if target disk works with windows it would recognize your computer as a hard drive and allow you to drag your files over. Again, I've never tried this with a pc before

I would not recommend the MBA as your first mac, it is a support computer and uses a main computer as a crutch with the lack of HDD and optical drive.

I know of three people that are buying the MBA as their only computers so far. One is replacing a 12" MBP, and one a 17" MBP. I personally could not live without a desktop, but many people do. Then again, I could not live with a MBP or an iMac as my only computer either...
If you know what you need and you are aware of the MBAs specifications, then you will be more than fine in my opinion.
