Panther and SMB issues

It seems like panther is always trying to mount extra volumes off of windows machines that i just have aliases to. I'm not double clicking on them or anything, its just connecting to them. Now that i'm home off my work network, everytime i try to launch the finder it crashes and tells me that the alias "alex" is corrupt. I had an alias to a windows share in the finder bar and I did an archive install. What do i need to do to keep the finder from crashing? I can't access anything!! I'm on a Pismo, and everything else is okay, being that i'm w/o quartz extream.
