Alright, who is going to be the first to verify Bitrate max, etc for those of you who have HD movies?

See if they increased it, but didn't tell everyone like they are doing on the iPhone.

Took about 4 to 5 minutes to download (cable on wireless N) and its been about 8 minutes installing with about 85% done....

EDIT:

it goes through the progress bar screen three times - the second and third times are much faster than the first.

Downloading (slowly) in the UK - I wonder what it will give me*, given that movie rentals aren't an option here.

*I know - I'm downloading the update without knowing much about it at all. At least it is going on relatively cheap (reconditioned) hardware, so if I don't like it I can roll back and set my firewall to deny traffic to mesu.

while i never rent movies (why rent when buying is so easy? and i refuse to give extra $$ to apple after the iphone ringtone bitch-slap), the Apple TV is what I am most excited about when it comes to their newer products.

the fact that they upgraded to 1080 means everything to me. i really want one of these. i have $200 credit to the apple store, and am seriously thinking about buying one of these. the fact that i could keep my movies on my mac and stream them to the apple tv means that it doesnt really matter how much HD space the thing has.

the only thing i dont like is the fact that i would have to have 2 files per movie, one for my iphone and one for my apple tv.

i still want one, and am thinking about getting one.

The bootup (new) animation after the update switched my receiver from Dolby Prologic II to Dolby Digital.

I tried a few Movie Trailers and they all were still in Pro Logic

Relative to 1080p, the hardware is apparently still capped at 720p. For those who seem to think that it is now a 1080p device, it is apparently only able to upscale (720p) to 1080i or 1080p. It was always able to upscale to 1080i, so the 1080p option is a new choice. But make no mistake: that is definitely different than being able to playback a 1080i or 1080p signal.

I'm checking Handbrake 6 channel AAC now files now.

Can anyone confirm or unconfirm for me whether or not this update messes with your restore partition? If I dont like Take2 I'd like to go back to 1.0

Kevin,

Do you know if this update helped to resolve the "pausing" issue during playback for movie with higher bitrates? (>3500). That has been my only complaint about AppleTV since day 1 (I bought when they were 1st announced).

If so, do you know what was done to help remedy the problem?

has anyone purchased an HD rental directly from the tv yet?
how long did it take to download? how long did you have to wait before you could start viewing?

I rented Pirates of the Carribean 2 hours ago, but don't plan on watching it until later tonight. So its been 2 hours and it has downloaded 92% so far. I don't know whether this is the normal time it will take for HD movies, or due to speed of Wireless G Router, or just the fact that everyone and their grandma are playing with ATV as we speak and messing up the servers!

A lot of work was done around performance but I don't know if these will have addressed your specific issue.
