XBench scores in Panther
I just did a full Xbench test of my PowerBook and got a score of 123! That is up by 15 points from 10.2.8! Everything shot up, especially graphics and UI tests.

Also of interest, after I repaired a ton of permissions, Panther now starts up in half the time, logs out instantly, and overall snappiness is probably a good 40-60%. Not too bad at all. I just need to get used to this new Finder and find out what to do about Transparent Dock not working.

I think the Energy Saver profile does a lot more in Panther, also, graphics are throttled back when the PowerBook is on battery, too, I just did another XBench and scored really high with processor on highest, HD never sleep, and everything set to high priority...

On my G5 my score jumped from 192.99 to 210.40. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
One thing I noticed that was strange since I loaded Panther, my 2GB kits are now showing up as PC2700 instead of PC3200, in Jag they were at PC3200. I installed two 2GB kits from Edge for a grand total of 4.5GB. Anyone have any ideas???

That seems odd! I noticed after installing, when I go to System Profiler, my Superdrive went from CD-RW/DVD-R to CD-RW/DVD-RW, my memory is listed as 2700 but it is 2700U or something different than in Jaguar, my HD shows a lot of information compared to Jaguar, and it shows my serial number now when before it had a hard time displaying it. Also, it shows my processor at 1.25/167 bus instead of 1.2/166 like it did in Jaguar.

I got a score of 127 for my highest so far. Check your Energy Saver preferences to see if your processor is set to highest and all that. I set everything to highest, plugged it in, ran any optimization and maintenance scripts I could think of, and closed all open programs before starting. Also, where did you get your memory? Cheap memory can actually slow down your performance more than increase it since the system automatically throttles back to the lowest common denominator.

I'm not sure, mine is just like yours besides not having a gig of RAM yet. Perhaps it's system configuration, too. Either way, our scores are really high for a laptop and I am pretty pleased with the performance I am getting.

I'm super happy with the increase in UI responsiveness.
Overall, my 10.2.8 to 10.3 score jumped from 45 to 52, with the UI score rocketing from 49 to 86! It really does feel like a totally new machine. Details below (if my image attached correctly) |

12" seems to have dropped
I went from between 84/90 on 10.2.7 on my 12inch 1Ghz Pbook to 74 - hmm... will try again, but doesn't seem to have had the awesome results you guys have had as yet!

What speed is your processor set at under Energy Saver? I think it defaults to Automatic, in which case, would bring your scores down to reflect the reduced settings of your system.
