Considering they haven't shipped yet, I doubt you'll find many people who have received and tested them. If you read the info on it that was listed, you'd know that there is one set bit rate for recording. You could record a concert if you really wanted, but it'd be pretty crappy because it's designed to be just good enough for voice. Steve mentioned in his iTunes presentation that the 40GB model could record 670 hours of voice notes. Thus, the 30GB model can do roughly 502 hours, the 20GB model can do 335 hours, the 15 can do roughly 251, and the 10GB model roughly 167.

Or translated, almost 17 hours per GB.

Voice recordings are saved as mono WAV files, 16-Bit audio at 8KHz.

Range of microphone is about 24", or 2'.

On a side note, the recorder can be used as a speaker. While intended to be used to listen to the voice notes you've taken, it can be used to listen to anything from the iPod, however it is designed to work close to the ear, so it is not very loud.
