3870 in new MacPro, anyone tried ?

I guess it may work, why?

1) MacPro's 2600XT works fine in PC, it has PC's bios. in iMacs 2600XT there is little efi part, which specifies driver (Hypoprion, there is string ATY,Hypoprion) but macpro's card has no such string in bios. so i guess it's simple PC's bios
2) 3870 works fine in MacOSX, there is full suport for it, even Sleep works.
3) 3870 works with same values in IOReg as 2600 (they come from boot.efi, via IODT:/efi/device-properties var)

So, my guess, it may work if EFI driver will set keys for it.

Anyone wanna try ?

p.s. need to have 10.5.2 to try it.

If one doesn't do gaming or 3D, but does video rendering, Aperture and Photoshop, will this card make any real difference over the 2600? If so, what might I expect?

If the 3870 works in the Mac Pro, is there a reason to hope that the HD3870x2 will work as well??? ... dreaming of 2 HD3870x2 with Crossfire

Not really worth it.

The only difference you will see would be in applications like After Effects, Colour and Motion.

Okay, but we are not interested in running Mac OS on a PC ... I am interested running the card in Bootcamp on the Mac Pro ... and maybe in the future on Mac OS in the same computer

Radeon 3870 X2 running on Mac Pro 3.2

I have a Radeon HD 3870 X2 and a GeForce 8800 GTX. I tried both on the Mac Pro 3.2GHz under Vista 64.

Prey at 1920x1200 High Quality (8X aniso, dynamic shadows on):
Radeon 3870 X2 (standard clocking) = 201 fps
Geforce 8800 GTX (overclocked) = 166 fps

Wow..! And what about Crysis...?
Any idea if Mac OS X works well with the Radeon 3870 X2?

BTW, is there any reason why NOT to run Vista 64 (but use Vista 32 instead) on a 2008 Mac Pro, especially regarding gaming...?

if it works using the 2600 firmware, would it mean that it would work in an oldschool macpro?
