Whats better? 1tb or 500gb

I currently have a Seagate ST31000340AS 1TB drive for my OS and am wondering if there would be a performance gain or loss with the use of a
Seagate ST3500320AS 500gb drive instead?

My setup:
Mac Pro 2.8 8-core (early 2008)
OS X Leopard w/ 10.5.2 updates
8 GB RAM
8800GT

I use Logic Pro 8 exclusively for on this system and wanted some advice in my decision. I would like to change the 1tb drive as my time machine backup drive and use a 500gb for the OS and another 500gb for music files.

Please help!

I guess cost is the issue. I can get two 500gb drives for $117.00 each!

can you get a Terabyte and the partition the disk? I guess if you want double redundancy ( I think that's what it is called) just to be safe then I would go with the 2 500 GB's. How much is the Terabyte?

A 1TB drive cost about $280.00 and a 500GB is $120.00.

1 1TB drive is twice as stable as 2 500GBs raided together to make 1TB - (two drives = twice the probability of failure.)

Double redunancy= 0 if the drive fails. If I had the space, I would go with the 2x500GB rather than the 1TB. I didn't have the room so I chose the 1TB to go along with the 500GB boot disk (two bay G5 tower). Did that make sense?
