Ok, as I do monthly, I erase the free space on my HD to make sure all my deleted data is off my HD. After i came out from taking a shower, Disk Utility became unresponsive. I waited about half an hour, and force quit the app. Now, T'm getting warnings that i have no more space on my Hard Drive. How do i fix this?

PS. I have a time machine backup

What does "erase the free space" mean?

I'm a Mac nooby and haven't heard the term before.

when you empty the trash, your not actually deleting the stiff on your hard drive, your computer just "forgets" that you have that there. So if qkmeone were to find your computer, they would have access to all those files you deleted. By erasing free space, your computer writes zeros on all that empty space (1,7, or 35 times), making it nearly impossible for that data to be recovered.
