iPod Touch Ad: 'What I'm Looking For'

Apple broadcast a new iPod Touch advertisement during American Idol last night. The new advertisement features a table full of iPod Touches showing off various features including Photos, Cover Flow, Weather, Notes, Web Browsing, Mail and Video playback.

Brendan Benson is the latest artist to benefit from exposure in an Apple television commercial with their song, What I'm Looking For (iTunes link). Compete reports that almost 1 million searches for iPod commercials and their songs were conducted from August 2007 to January 2008. Though briefly, Apple actually shows the artist name and song being played in this commercial on one of the iPod Touch's screens.

Apple has posted the new ad in Quicktime format and it is also available on YouTube.

What I'm looking for is bluetooth and the ability to tether to an HSDPA phone.

I know, I know this will never come as it will damage iPhone sales. So, I bought my iPhone.

Sweet new ad.
Do you think this will be Apple's new style over the white/black clinical look?

I think these ads make people actually enjoy watching them. Come on, since last June we've heard the iPhone ads with the children music in the background, doesn't it get old after a while? This ad shows what the iPod touch can really do, and it has a nice "modern" look to it.

This is surely the coolest iPhone/iPT yet. It's fun, fast-paced, but it really communicates the most and best of what you can do with an iPT. Very impressed. I like the wooden table background a lot better than white or black.

Ad does its job

I remember when the iPhone first came out, there was a lot of talk of the ads actually not showing enough of what the device can do.

I think they've able shown the device's versatility, which has always been a major marketing challenge for Apple. How do you show off many cool features at once, without interest dropping off.

The first thought I had when I watched this was 'oh that's brilliant - stroke of genius to get a load of Touches together in one shot to show off the capabilities.'

I also like the fact that they aren't perfectly lined up, so it comes across as less clinical.

I think this is very well made ad! I really really like it! Better then the last.

And what especially is interesting to me that Apple can push an artist really forward with this. I just looked at his album and I saw that the song What I'm Looking For is now the most popular of the album!!!

FYI, Brendan Benson is a person, not a band. He is also in The Raconteurs with Jack White.

It's a great advert.

The new touch is pretty far removed from the old ipods - there's a slew of functionality that needs to be relayed to the consumer whilst still keeping it on brand - and this new advert does that.

There's so much visual information in the ad - and the style of it is totally Apple. It's not overbearing with what it's trying to show you and shows the functionality in very simple 'real world' ways.

Now if they could do something like this for OS X, that would be great.

Fantastic ad! Way to go, Apple! The touch is becoming both a staple of the PDA and the PMP worlds, and that's just phenomenal.

Agreed.
<rant>When I hear those kindergarden bell tones and that pompous prick begin talking about buying cars and getting better deals 'cause he has an iPhone - I want to vomit. Any more, the channel changes as soon as those spots come on. SO annoying. And I own an iPhone...</rant>

Anywho, this new spot is really nice! Having all of the touches on the wood surface, displaying different features is simply brilliant. A clever and aesthetically pleasing way to convey the many things a touch is capable of - all without some snot head telling me how snotty he is.<Hehe sorry /rant fo realz>

Man, you hit the nail on the head.
I feel the same - no one (obviously, some do) knows the magic/power/grace/and ease of OS X.
If Apple could do for OS X, what they just did for the touch... it's over.

You must be thinking of another Apple product. The first iPhone ads were praised because they were the FIRST Apple ads to actually show what the device can do. They showed the hand playing movies, searching for Seafood, and listening to music/movies. It wasn't until months and months later that they started playing these "people in front of a screen ads". In fact, they have dumped these again and gone back to the features ones (i.e., Facebook, cars.com, etc.).

Well done Apple.... I think it was a great Ad showing off what the iPod Touch can do. I just bought one and I love it. I use it more than my MacBook Pro. I can't wait for the SDK and see what else we can do with this great little device.(Thats if it is "open" to anyone and anyone can write Apps) Crosses fingers.

I like what the ad shows, but found it hard to watch. It often changed faster than I take in what was happening. It was sort of frustrating. I had to go watch it in ultra-slow motion so I could see all of the details. Maybe I'm getting old. That said, I like the ad, and believe it makes its point well.

The new touch what is not to like it sure makes more sense than the iPhone where I'm at.

What I'm looking for is 64+ gigs of storage for a decent price with a larger than 2.5 inch screen.
