Macbook Air crashing with Parallels

Please do not use Parallels on the Macbook Air. It keeps crashing. There are already some discussions about this on the Parallels forum. I have just bought the Macbook air and is very frustrated because Parallels keep crashing with increasing frequency with my MBA.😡
 
I had a Dell XPS / M1210 about 9 months old and purchased a MBA 1.6 / 80.

I first installed bootcamp along with Win XP and made sure it ran properly. I installed all of the Microsoft Office 2003 suite. I made sure it operated fine and then I did all of the upgrades to both Win XP and Office.
After all of that I installed Parallel as a VM and it works fine with no crashes etc.

no problems here on my MBA...just because you are crashing doesnt mean you should post a warning to all MBA owners. Maybe you have an issue w/ your install, conflict w/ an app, etc. Parallels and Win XP run just fine on the MBA, as mentioned in several posts just below yours....might want to ask for help instead of making a statement like this:

It doesn't crash when you are using it but if the MBA goes to sleep for sometime and if you come back to it after, it crashes.
 
I close down Parallels before I close the MBA so can't say whether it would crash. Otherwise, Parallels works fine for me.
 
The beauty of Mac OSX is that you can simply close the lid and it will go to sleep and when open it again the laptop is available instantly without reboot. I do that all the time. I move around and "hot seat" in the office and therefore this feature is very important to me. I am therefore not at all pleased to find out that I have to close down Parallel if I want to close the laptop lid. 😡
 
Parallels works for me without issue too. I have yet to see it crash. However may I also draw the OP's attention to the fact that we have a separate WINDOW ON A MAC section and this thread should belong there..
 
Fusion

My feeling is that everybody has their own needs. My need is that I move around a lot taking a my Macbook Air around the office. I just close the lid without closing Parallels. But this has caused Parallels to crash (kernel panic). So Parallels does not satisfy my need.
I have used Fusion for 3 days. It is very stable, uses less resources and most importantly, it does not crash when I close and reopen the Macbook Air lid. Fusion does all the things that Parallels does for me. There are certain things that Fusion is inferior like file sharing (in Fusion it is manual but it is automatic in Parallels) but I can put up with Fusion because it does not crash and therefore satisfy my need. You may have a different need and therefore will choose the one that fits you. For me at the moment, Fusion is the answer. I am happy now.🙂
 
Four of my friends who used parallels had problems with it either no working as it was supposed to and more commonly, slowing down there laptops. They all switched to Fusion and never looked back, althou i like parallels i can never get over how un-mac it is if i can call it that.
 
i worked on a macbook pro (older version) last night that was having parallels problems - we uninstalled and reinstalled XP, as described in other threads. Seems to be running fine now. But he siad it wokred great for about two weeks before he had problems. my suggestion was to make sure Windows Update is ON and automatically installing new software updates.

I use bootcamp on my new MP - not really interested in the hot switch - but then i have taken the time and $ to duplicate my software on both platforms where ever i can so i dont need the hot switch.

I would fault windows before blaming parallels, but whats new.
 
I never have a problem with Parallels with my Macbook Pro. It is the Macbook Air which is having the problem.
