Purple iPod Nano Inbound?

Readers report that this week's Circuit City Ad (page 20) is advertising a purple iPod nano.

Apple's current line of iPod nanos come in silver, blue, green, black, pink, and (PRODUCT) RED. The obvious suggestion is that Apple is set to release a purple iPod nano. However, note that mousing over the photo reveals the current iPod nano lineup, increasing the possibility that the advert simply has profound mistakes.

The addition of a purple option to the iPod nano would make the iPod Shuffle lineup a complete subset of the iPod nano colors. Currently, the purple depicted in the ad is available on the iPod Shuffle but not available on the iPod nano, whereas the iPod nano has the additional options of black and pink (recently added) that are not available on the iPod shuffle.

Simply amazing.

Seriously, though, I wish they'd throw in a burgundy flavor. You stay classy, San Diego.

It's definitely not fake in the sense that circuit city is definitely advertising it. But I'm not so sure myself that it really means that Apple is coming out with a purple iPod. Notice that I suggest in the story that it could just be a very bungled advertisement (perhaps on purpose by a "funny" person in Circuit City's advertising dept).

I think this is just the Pink nano, with some color reproduction gone horribly wrong.

yeah, comparing the one you posted with the one in the cc add, it looks like everything just has a bit of blue added to all the nanos

I think we'll see Purple. But I wonder if it will happen this Tuesday, and will it put off the iMac update?

I agree that the colors are just way off. Because if you look at the nano to the left of the "purple nano" it looks like a dark teal color (which i am guessing is supposed to be black), which is not offered.

Clever way to get free advertising. Modify an Apple product image and get posted on tons of gadget sites.

You can tell its fake because by just changing the Hue in photoshop with the Hue/Saturation slider you can get the exact shade from the pink ipod. Nothing else changed. Apple wouldnt make a new color by just changing the hue of the pink one in Photoshop.

I agree. I noticed the purple nano printed in my Circuit City ad this morning, but after noticing the other colors as well, I decided it must be a printing error.

I also noticed that Circuit City has 1 GB iPod shuffles on sale for $79.99. What a deal!

I doubt it's an accident. Yes, the other colours look a little off, but that wouldn't make the pink nano turn that shade of purple. My guess is that, if it's not a future colour from apple, somebody was tryinna be funny and nobody caught it before it went out

So there's a chance that working a purple iPod Nano in there is some sort of mistake? How can this be a mistake?

If this was a printing error, then the other colours would also be screwed up. If the purple iPod Nano in the picture was actually the pink Nano, but printed poorly, then the other Nano colours would also look a bit more "blue", no?

I thought the roadmap is on Thursday? But yes, I've noticed the weekends are a little slower for MR stories.

I'm only being a devil's advocate here, but with some really simple hue and saturation changes to the image posted by arn, you can see that the purple nano could be either a printing/scanning error, or just someone who's not familiar with color modes. I'm no printing expert, but color issues like this are extremely feasible.

Also - ignore the (PRODUCT) RED nano...it's not even in the ad.
