can you move time machine?

I just did that and I was successful with the unregistered (read: free) SuperDuper version. 'Tried Disk Utility - Restore but it complained. After copying the image, I unmounted the original backup drive and went into TM settings to point it to the new drive. It picked up everything; including the TM stats (first backup, most recent, etc.)
