How do I set the priority of a process? I know in linux its nice or renice is it the same here? Is there a freeware program that can do this easier without having to run terminal commands.

As far as I know, you cant prioritize a process in OS X. There are some apps for it, the the gains in performance is usually close to 0%. Sometimes "prioritized" app runs slower than if it was left at OSX default state.
