It's the best Power Mac G4 ever made. It's a tad bit loud and heavier then the older models but it's good looking and expandable. 
A very nice system, as was all but the first of the PMG4s, mainly because of the available Processor and Memory Upgrades. You can get a PMG4 to be a dual 1.8Ghz G4.

The MDD is the poor man's Mac Pro. I have used the QuickSilver models a ton, and I kept wishing that they were more expandable.
On the other hand, my B+W G3 with clear case handles and a 500MHz G4 is still truckin'.

Just the best machine I have ever had. My rig is still so fast that I have a tough time to justify a new one for a long time.
Using a Raptor 10K SATA as boot drive really is sweat. I used to upgrade this thing a lot. Unfortunately there is not a lot left for me,
Ram maxed out, drives replaced for SATA's, low noise Verax cooling for the PSU, Readon 9600 Pro 256MB for a future 30' display or a second 23' ...
Never had any problems with it, best machine ever....
On top of it, best design ever -I just love it !!!

great great mac. Got my dual 1.25GHZ MMD G4 in the summer of 2002. It's still running today next to my new Mac Pro. The machine is very upgradable. I have 2GB of ram inside, over 2TB of hard drives, a ATI 9700 Pro with 128MB of video ram, 3 firewire 800 ports, 802.11N wireless, 3 USB 2.0 ports, and 4 firewire 400 ports. And it's still running 10.5.2 with no problems. Enjoy your G4.
Man, I may need to pick me up one of these after reading this. Dual 1.25 on CL right now for $470.

Nope, but I had 4 x 512 MB PC3200 DDR RAM chips lying around the house and of course I still have another HD sled to fill 750 GB hard drives... the 2 other ones were in my Powermac G3 (upgraded) but just got transferred to the new mac last night.
Quite an upgrade indeed but this is going to be the awesome one... only problem is how do I lug this onto an airplane?
When I bought it... it only had a 80 GB HD (seagate) and 768 PC2700 RAM. the PC3200 RAM is much better!
I really want one as they are the fastest machines capable of booting into OS 9 and I have some OS 9 games I would love to pull out of the closet and run them on a faster machine than I used to have.

Actually when I bought it, it came with the Airport Extreme card already installed! That was sweet.
The last Powermac G4's took the new extreme card not the old ones.
I recently went to a University newspaper to give them some advice on their computers... I walked in to find a slew of eMacs and one Dual 1.25 GHz PowerMac G4 sitting idle in the corner. I asked the editor about it and she told me that was their slowest machine and they didn't even use it anymore. So I opened up the system profiler and saw that it had only 256 RAM. Most likely, previous students working there stole the memory from the machine. I told the editor how incredible this machine really is, got her to buy 2 GB of RAM for it, and now that computer is what they use to do the brunt of their work on.
I would take a Dual 1.25 G4 over most G5 Macs. I've never liked the G5 processor, it takes forever to wake up from sleep mode.

btw, I have 2 video cards running right now... the stock Radeon 9000 64mb and the Radeon 9200 128mb in the PCI slot! That's 4 monitor support potentially. But why, I wouldn't know?

The last MDD G4s had an option of airport express but I have a MDD (2002) so I added a PCI 802.11N card. Airport Express (G) is only 54Mbps. 802.11N is 300Mbps. Huge difference in file sharing. Using your PCI slots is a great move considering that they support 133MBps.

Yeah, they're decent machines. Personally I'd prefer a quicksilver for its looks... and I dunno, I guess the fact that the MDDs were so horribly outperformed by the P4s at the time of their introduction just bugs me. Hm. You can boost it to dual 2 GHz, btw, not just 1.8.
But thats only in a single G4, with 1.8 you can get dual G4s. I'm still waiting for dual 1.8 7448 G4 chips for the MDDs like they have for the quicksilver macs. Ahh one day.
Still glad that mine is up and running and it is smooth as butter... hard to tell the difference between this and my black macbook!
