Partition strategy for MacPro 4TB RAID
My RAID 5 is currently initializing with 4 1TB drives.
This is my first experience with a RAID. I just had some simple questions. 1. Do most people partition the HD after the RAID is created to make smaller volumes to make backup easier? Is there a performance penalty for this? 2. Since the whole HD is a RAID 5, there isn't any advantage to create a partition for a "scratch" drive is there? 3. Should I just leave it as one large drive? 4. If I partition it, what should I split the drive up to? 500gb for programs? The rest for data/personal files? I did do a search but the answers where not that clear on the theory behind their choices. Thanks for any help |
