Where have i gone wrong with this?

I installed OSX on the ipod with a min installation.

I then rebooted the mac holding down the option key (thanks guys) and waited until i got my list of bootable items.

I select my ipod and then nothing happens, what have i done wrong?

It shouldn't matter that i have OSX installed on the laptop as well should it?
 
Did you install 10.2 using the install disks? It's my unstanding that Jaguar won't self-install correctly on its own onto a firewire disk.

That book Secrets of the iPod has a description of how to install 10.2 by using Carbon Copy Cloner.
