Hi there - really sorry if this has been posted elsewhere/is a complete newbie error!

Just got my first mac (new Macbook Pro!), and tonight for the first time tried playing a DVD on it. Was all very swish, till a little while into the film the mac went into sleep mode (also when I woke it back up the dock had disappeared, but I managed to get it back).

In the end I turned the screensaver and sleep modes off altogether, but that's obviously not an ideal solution.

Is there a way to stop the mac going to sleep/turning on the screensaver when it's playing a DVD?

Cheers!

for the Power Adapter and Battery source set the computer to sleep never, put the display to sleep after a certain amount of time and then untick "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before sleep" in Options.

then when your watching a DVD set to "Custom" battery settings from the battery icon in the menu bar.
