Hints at iPod Touch Price Drop?

Apple's Dutch iTunes store is running an ad that shows the iPod touch, starting at only 199 euro. This represents a 80 euro difference from the official price of the iPod touch of 279 euro. Yooph.nl speculates that this could be a premature leak akin to Swiss Apple Store Airport Express specs. Indeed, none of the other iPods in the same store start at 199 euro, making it less likely to be a simple substitution error.

To further add to this being a true leak, we had heard rumors that both the iPod Touch and iPhone would be seeing US $100 price drops in the coming months -- though, those rumors suggested Apple would the eliminate of the 8GB model.

We're buying two more iPhones on the next price drop.

This would be great. We can all use more for less money. Then again this maybe to keep the factories going during a bad economy or it could be clearing the inventory for the next model with 802.11n and maybe (cross fingers) 3G.

Bring on the price drops Apple... the economy is struggling enough as it is! Gas prices are soaring... and having a $80-100 price drop from the Touch to the iPhone will be welcomed with open arms! So let's hope this rumor is not a rumor...

Apple makes so much money on the iphone service contract and itunes that you would think that they would start offering $200 with a 2 year contract soon. I know they get full price now and a 2 year contract so why would they change? The more phones Apple sells the more people will download songs, movies, and apps.

There will come a day when you will see an iPhone for free or $99 with a 2 year contract.

Not to rain on all the United States people's parade, but couldn't this just be apple updating the price with the recent changes in the dollar to euro conversion rate?

"Gas prices are soaring..."

In the UK we're at almost $10 a gallon. We should all get free iPod touches from the government from all the taxes they have raised.

I am standing by, reading to purchase a 32GB touch as soon as the price drops to $399. It's a sure deal; $399 and I will buy it.

I hope apple comes through. Even paying $399 for only 32GB seems like a stretch, but worth it with all the other features it has; $499 is completely ridiculous.

Would this suggest that update can be seen soon?

Also, with the recent news of refurb iphones getting a price drop, should i buy an iphone now or wait until the new one comes out?

Nope, it's true. The funny thing is that when you click the ad you're being forwarded to the Dutch online Apple Store where you'll find the old prices.

Yup. In one thread, everyone's complaining: "[insert product here] hasn't been updated in MONTHS! Charging [insert price] when it doesn't even come with [insert feature] is totally unacceptable. Everyone else has [insert feature], and they're hundreds cheaper too! If Apple doesn't get their act together, I'm buying a [insert competitor here]!"

So Apple releases an update with better features and a lower price, and.... everyone complains. "This is an insult to everyone who bought an [insert product here]! How dare they reduce the price! I just bought one yesterday and now it is totally worthless!"

We could do Apple Mad Libs.

The ad links to nowhere. It is just standing there on the Dutch front page of the music store.
