Format Not Supported - But it was yesterday!
I'm running AppleTV with 2.0 and have been enjoying it for the last week. I stream all of my media, movie, music videos, music, everything.
All my music is mp3s, the videos are mp4s and m4vs. Everything played fine til last night. Now it says all my media is in a format that is not supported!?!?! |

Make sure iTunes is open on the computer from which you are streaming.

And, I've noticed this happens sometimes when you add new media to itunes. The simple solution is to go out of the media list, then back in and try again.

I get this message if I forget to attach the external drive with the content on. ie Apple TV can see the headers in iTunes but can't play it because it can't find the file.

I have gotten this message before too. I just simply restarted iTunes, and that fixed the error. I hope this helps.

You're right. I was trying to remember when I saw that error, and it was when I had my externals not mounted.

Yep, me too. In fact, since I've gone wired (nearly 2 weeks now) I haven't had one single issue with my Apple TV whereas before I was getting all sorts of different issues at least once a day sometimes more. It's now a completely different user experience and definitely a positive one. If you're having issues, try going wired, you really will see a big improvement.

I think there may be some quirky error associated with this message. One time I was browsing the movie trailers with my
TV (post-2.0) and I got the same message from one of Apple's own movie trailers. That should never happen. I've only seen it the one time, though.

Just got that message for the first time tonight. Some movies did, some didn't. I'll close Itunes and try again but its annoying. I did upgrade to ILife 08 today and installed a new Apple TV yesterday that really should not have anything to do with the message.

My ATV does this CONSTANTLY and it drives me INSANE! The solution is to hold down the "-" and "menu" button until you get to Apple TV Recovery and then choose to Restart. Once this happens, you can watch a movie....BUT only 1, after that this error comes right back up. It has nothing to do with streaming/wireless on mine because stored local video content also throw this error.
When this error is coming up, I can still watch Youtube, Trailers, and Movie Rentals, but nothing else ![]() Anyone think I should take my ATV to the Apple Store? I thought about it, but when I made my appointment and it asked me for what product, Apple TV was not listed....what am I to choose there, iPod???

I just experienced this situation. I'm not sure why it is occurring.
I'm connected wirelessly to ATV. I tested the files in itunes on my imac and everything worked fine. I tried syncing again. No effect I tried quitting itunes and restarting it, after longer than normal sync I was able to play the files. Strange |
