I have been reading and researching about getting 5.1 output on macs and have been on the verge of finally ordering a Firewave for my new penryn MBP. But upon stopping by Griffin's website, I noticed they had removed the Firewave from their mac products page. A quick google search took me to the Firewave page here: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave

And on the page, it says the firewave is on close out and the price reduced to $29.99. Another quick glance at Firewave on Amazon also shows it as discontinued. Now, I wonder why? There always seems to be a decent amount of attention and interest (and a whole lot of confusion I might add) concerning 5.1 sound on Macs whenever I search for the topic on various Apple site forums, so why discontinue a product? Does this mean they might be coming out with a new external 5.1 device? I really can't tell, so I was wondering might have any insight on this.

Anyway, I will be ordering my firewave, since you really can't beat $30! I just hope I can enable EAX on my PC games in bootcamp, as that is the main reason I have been looking at the Firewave in the first place.

I think I read somewhere they has issues with Leopard (would not work after the computer would go to sleep).

Maybe they had no easy way to fix it and saw their market shrinking ?

Mine works with Leopard, although I've had one or two mysterious drop-outs recently. My speakers are getting pretty old, though, so I'm not entirely confident it's not their fault.

My main beef with the firewave is that there's no way to save your settings. If you unplug the firewave (or unplug your laptop with the power off) the firewave loses power, and all its settings.
