Mac OS X 10.5.3 Test Builds Seeded to Developers

Quote:
Apple's just released a OS X Leopard 10.5.3 update beta to developers, meaning that the patch is at least stable enough for widespread testing. Among the things being fixed are several memory leaks in CoreAnimation and iCal, but the final release won't be available until an estimated April or May.

Nice find. It looks like they're also fixing the widely known issue of Mail.app not consistently giving notification sounds. It's about damn time.

I've had problems with Mail not hiding or quitting (and Safari) at different times (not just when starting at login). Force quitting is only a minor occurrence for me, but thinking about some people I know, widespread panic could ensue if it happened to them

Hmmm, I edited my sidebar to get rid of the ugly CAPSLOCK titles.

I wonder if its a simple fix? (the desktop should just be a case of changing preferences) edit (as too should be the sidebar)

Thanks, but this was a hairy one. Fortunately, I found this thread (after a reinstall that didn't work), and was able to work out a solution.

you mean like the annoying 25 finder windows of network drives that are set to hide but clutter all the screen every login?

I think this is the first time ive complained about an OS build, but although leopard is really great applications do seem to crash all the time. 10.5.2 was a lot better that .1 but it's still bad. iChat crashes all the time, safari too especially with a PDF in view, and lots more. I send feedback each time so I hope someone at apple takes a look. Fingers crossed for 10.5.3

Did you tell them about that problem at www.apple.com/feedback ? If there is any problem you know about, tell them!

Yep, I've told them several times about the no new mail sound. It's also all over their support forums, so they know. It looks like 10.5.3 will finally address this.

Apple Seeds First Mac OS X 10.5.3 (9d10) Version

Apple issued the first Mac OS X 10.5.3 seed (9d10) to developers yesterday. The latest update to Apple's Mac OS X Leopard addresses dozens of outstanding issues.

Fixes range from Dashboard, Parental Controls, iCal Synchronization, memory leaks and stability issues. All in all, 75 distinct bug fixes are listed in the accompanying seed notes.

A few known issues remain, and Apple typically seeds a number of developer builds for testing before releasing the final update to customers. While these point releases generally provide bug and stability fixes only, the 10.5.2 seed also addressed some user interface complaints. The current version of Mac OS X (10.5.2) was released in February 2008.

Definitely get it! Time Machine alone nearly justifies the purchase. Screen Sharing is a nice plus too! Besides what is the alternative? Staying in Tiger forever or switching to V****a?

I hope they also address the syncing issues with Safari 3.1 and the iPhone. Bookmarks are no longer syncing properly to the iPhone since the update.

I definetely agree with this statement. I had to restore my entire boot drive from a TM backup Wed night and the process could not have been any more painless. If this was a PC I would have spent more than 24 hours reinstalling my OS and all the software I have on here. The TM restore took ~35 minutes for 80GB and I only had two or three minor issues.

Thank you, Apple

I agree with the airport issues and my MBP waking from sleep. Sometimes it takes 2 seconds, sometimes I wait over a minute.

No offense, but that sounds like a game no one has heard of. Any problems with MAINSTREAM games like Quake or Doom?

I have a very busy summer coming up with freelance clients and can't afford to be messing with my OS.
Again what planet are you from? What in Gods name do you mean Tiger was never this buggy? Um, sir I've been using Mac's since age 7, AGE 7! And I can tell you that Tiger WAS this buggy. Tiger didn't have half the features that Leopard does, I know this for a fact, sir. I'm running 10.4.11 Server on an iMac G4 and I can say this as fact. Please back up your claims that Leopard is more buggy than Tiger. If you have that much time on your hands, that is of course. BTW, Leopard sucks on PPC's, get an Intel Mac.
