I have this 500 meg avi file and i want to make a VCD out of it. If i select VCD its says i need 800megs of disk space, so with that i insert a DVD and select DVD-video but now its says i need 4.8 GB's of space...how come? This is confusing and annoying because i want to have this movie on disk.

However, if i burn this 500 meg on a data disk it fits on fine on either CD or DVD.

I'm using Toast btw.

Basically Toast sucks at converting the file. Use ffmpeg to convert the avi to either an MPEG-1(VCD) or MPEG-2(DVD) file, and then burn that file with Toast.

You can set the file size of the resulting MPEG file, so it will actually fit on a CD or DVD.

ah thankyou, i have already encoded a file and i am burning it now, hopefully it will work. Just doing a test at the moment however.
